Successful weekend for Mayo AC

MAYO AC @ KINVARA HALF MARATHON 

At the Kinvara Half-marathon (March 1)

Mayo AC’s first man home was Tadgh Hanrahan in an excellent 1:21.24, 12th place overall and 8th M40.

Tony Hegarty M55 also recorded a great time 1:38.58.

As did Mairéad Bristow F45 next home in 1:47.10. She completed the Céide Coast Half Marathon last September in 1:47.54 and ran 48:37 in the Hollymount 10k in November..

Martin Parsons M50 crossed the line in 1:54.23 –  his first half marathon was in Kinvara in 2023 finishing in 1:57.26. He’s making improvements in every race and distance since then and ran  39:01 in the recent Turlough 8k.

Well done to new club member Dee Prendergast F40 who competed in her first race in Mayo AC vest, finishing in 1:57.51.

Winners were Barry Hartnett Dundrum AC 1:12.05, and Neasa DeBurca GCH 1:23.58

 

MIXED RELAY SILVER SUCCESS FOR MAYO AC 

At the Leinster Indoors U20 Senior and Masters Championship at the National Indoor Arena, Abbotstown on Saturday (March 1)

Mayo AC competed in the first edition of a 4x200m mixed relay in the championships.

Congratulations to the Mayo AC team who came away with silver in heat 2, the senior event, completing the four laps in 2:12.77- Mayo AC – Declan Owens, Noelle Kilduff, Mikey McAndrew, Paula Donnellan.

Declan Owens said afterwards “we’re delighted to win silver in this inaugural event – a great day for the club!”

Gold medal winners were Tallaght AC who went round in a very fast 1:38.20 – a new championship record. The Tallaght AC team is coached by former Mayo AC sprinter Daniel Kilgallon.

 

TOKYO MARATHON SUCCESS FOR PADRAIC AND ANGELA 

Padraic and Angela McVann from Mayo AC continued their globe trotting pursuit of the Abbott Marathon Majors today Sunday (GMT+9) with a trip to Tokyo.

The Marathon Majors is a points-based competition founded on seven major marathon races recognised as the most high-profile on the calendar, the series comprises annual races for the cities of Tokyo, Boston, London, Sydney, Berlin, Chicago and New York.

Padraic and Angela are well on their way to completing the unique achievement having run in Chicago 2023, Boston 2024, and Berlin 2024.

Padraic M55 finished in: 3:25.17 net, 3:29.23. gross.

He was 51.03 at 10k, 1:43.07 halfway, and 2:26.10 at 30k – average 4.52k.

That’s a brilliant time and not far off his PB from Berlin 3:22.07. He’s had an excellent series so far which has included Chicago 3:27.17, and Boston 3:27.56.

Angela W55 crossed the line in 4:43.36 net 4:47.52 gross.. Halfway at 2:11.01, she averaged 6:44k. Her Chicago time was 4:05.36 which is a better reflection of her recent finishes.

Padraic and Angela have trained hard over the past ten years to achieve personal bests at all the significant distances from 5k to marathon while moving up the categories from o45. Their dedication and achievements are a great example to all club masters athletes.
