This morning Sligo swimmer Mona McSharry qualified for the semi-finals of the woman’s 200m breaststroke at the European Aquatics Championships, she clocked up the second fastest overall time in the heats, a time of 2.23.37.
She finished second to Angharad Evans of Great Britain, who also beat her to gold in the 100m finals yesterday.
The 200m semi-final takes place tonight at 6:07pm.
Yesterday McSharry claimed a silver medal at the European Aquatics Championships in the women’s 100-metre breaststroke.
The Sligo swimmer touched the wall in 1:05.41 to secure a place on the podium, adding another major international medal to the Olympic bronze she won in Paris in 2024.
Evans took gold in a new Championship record time of 1:04.87, while Italy’s Benedetta Pilato claimed bronze.
McSharry admitted yesterday evening the achievement had yet to fully sink in after another impressive performance.
Speaking to RTÉ Sport, she said the result was “amazing” and that she was still trying to take in the fact she had finished on the podium.
The 25-year-old also credited her approach to the race, saying that trusting the process and making adjustments after her performance yesterday had paid off.
