Crossmolina Deel Rovers’ Kobe McDonald has committed his future to Australia.
Last night, confirmation came through that McDonald has signed with AFL club St. Kilda, as a Category B rookie.
McDonald, son of Mayo GAA great Ciarán, is expected to complete his Leaving Certificate before moving to the Melbourne-based club.
On the St. Kilda club website, CEO Carl Dilena said “Kobe’s natural abilities have been evident for some time, and his experience playing Gaelic football will provide a great foundation for his transition to AFL.
We’ve seen the impact Irish players can make in our game, and we’re looking forward to supporting Kobe as he begins his journey with the club.”
McDonald starred this year in a Club Championship campaign which saw Crossmolina reach the semi-final stages before losing out to Westport. He was also part of the Mayo team which reached the Minor Football Championship semi-finals in 2023, where they faced Armagh.
