Mayo will play Division 2 hurling next season.

Ray Larkin’s side were six point winners away to Wicklow this afternoon, which confirms promotion and a place in the league final.

Wicklow’s charges were dealt a serious blow after just four minutes thanks to a red card for midfielder John Toomey.

Mayo took advantage with a goal midway through the first half courtesy of Joseph Burke, and went in 1-9 0-6 up at the break.

Liam Lavin, Cormac Phillips and Sean Kenny added second half goals for Mayo but it wasn’t all plain sailing – Mayo were 10 up at one stage, and Wicklow managed to bring it back to a point.

However, the numerical advantage paid dividends in the end and Mayo won by six.

Details of the league final against London are yet to be confirmed.
