Mayo Minors fall short of Galway

Mayo v Roscommon - Connacht GAA Football Minor Championship Final

The Mayo Minors were beaten by two points last night in the final round of the Connacht Minor Football Championship.

David Heaney & Tom Reilly’s youngsters just fell short against Galway, but will face the Tribesmen once again in two weeks’ time in the Connacht semi final.

Goals from Patrick Garvey & Oisin McCann helped Mayo into a 2-5 1-7 lead at half time in Tuam.

The home side went ahead on 42 minutes, with their second goal, before Jack Comer hit Mayo’s third goal to bring the sides back on level terms.

Galway managed to push on later in the game, with a four point cushion heading into added time.

Fiacre O Cinnseala hit a two pointer to give Mayo hope, but Galway still managed to get over the line.

The Connacht semi final will take place on Friday May 2 in Hastings Insurance MacHale Park at 7:30pm.

Roscommon await the winners in the final.

Elsewhere last night, Leitrim got the better of Sligo in Tubbercurry to win the Connacht shield.
