Mayo Masters AC MARCH 25

At the National Masters Indoor Championships at Athlone TUS on Saturday, Mayo AC were represented by 14 competitors – 10 men and 4 women. They competed in a number of track and field events and relays.

A busy schedule began just after 10am and went on to the late evening. Obviously the weather is not an issue, however the air can be very dry which is a factor for some in the mid-distance  races.

As usual competition in all age category events was keen with clubs from every one of the 32 counties competing.

Mayo AC have consistently won medals at the Masters Indoors over the years.

This year their 14 representatives came away with a great haul of 19 medals – 13 on track and 6 in field events.

A number of them came away with two medals Patrick Moran, Martin Peyton, Brendan Staunton, Paula Donnellan, Angela O’Connor, John Jennings and Mags Glavey leading the way with two golds while Colette Tuohy collected the W55 3,000m gold.

The men’s relay team were delighted to win silver in 4x200m.

It was great to see the club compete in such a wide range of events on track and field from o40 up to o75.

All round it was an excellent medal winning performance – nineteen medals in total.

Congratulations to all the medallists and well done to all 14 masters who represented Mayo AC.
