The Mayo ladies have been relegated to Division 2 of the Lidl National Football League.
Liam McHale’s side needed to beat Waterford convincingly today to have any chance of staying up.
As well as that, they needed a Tyrone win against Kildare, which did not formulate.
Mayo started well with a goalf rom Annie Gough, but Waterford replied brilliantly to lead 1-7 1-0 at the break.
Lauren McGregor hit the net twice for the home side, with a goal in each half.
Tyrone will join Mayo in Division 2 next season.
