The return of the Mayo football league season has been delayed by the Connacht FA. The league was due to return on the 16th of February, but has now been pushed back by two weeks.

Last week, the Mayo Football League Management Committee stepped aside, following a meeting chaired by the Connacht FA, when it became clear that warring factions and differences within the league could not be settled.

One of these issues included the league barring Mayo FC from using Milebush stadium for matches.

Now, the Connacht FA has taken the decision to delay the MFL’s return as a “purely precautionary measure”, with an EGM scheduled for February 4th.

It is hoped this will allow the new committee reasonable time to settle in, and arrange a new schedule, and also allow clubs to prepare in a timely way.

Following last week’s meeting, the Connacht FA assumed control of the MFL.
