Mayo FC has officially submitted an Expression of Interest to join the FAI’s Third Tier of the National League.
The exciting announcement comes as the FAI look to create a strong link between the League of Ireland and the amateur game, having stated in December that they want to develop the connection by 2026.
A five year strategy plan was announced by the FAI back in 2022, with an original goal of a third tier by 2023, however, the target failed due to financial concerns from some clubs.
Mayo FC, which was founded in 2023, released a statement on social media this afternoon stating:
“This marks an historic step forward in our club’s development as we strive to bring senior League of Ireland to Mayo.
“Our vision is to create a platform for local talent to shine on the national stage while growing the game in our community.
“There’s still a big journey ahead … stay tuned for updates as we continue to build something special here for Mayo FC.”
