Mayo won their first Connacht U20 Football Title in seven years last night with an enthralling three point win over Roscommon in Tuam Stadium.
Mayo started the game in blistering fashion establishing a nine point lead.
However, Roscommon came right back into the contest with crucial goals from Rory Carthy and two from John McGuinness.
Mayo were dealt a big blow in the first half with Eoin McGreal forced off through injury.
Mayo’s first half goals came from Seamus Howard and Darragh Beirne.
Beirne hit 1-03 in total while Tom Lydon kicked five points
Mayo led by two at half time.
The second half continued in the same end to end high octane affair.
Mayo led by two in the dying stages when Roscommon were denied a goal for a square ball.
Mayo hung on for a famous victory and afterwards the man of the match accolade went to Hugh O’Loughlin from Kilmaine.
Mayo will now meet Louth in the All-Ireland semi-final in two weeks time after they overcame Meath last night.
