Castlebar Town v Manulla FC and Castlebar Celtic v Killala FC are the match-ups for the Eco-Powered Cabinets Mayo Women’s Cup semi-finals taking place next weekend.
The Shield semi-finals will feature Ballina Town v Kiltimagh Knock United and Conn Rangers v Snugboro United, with all games taking place next Friday evening, July 17, at 7.30 p.m.
Last Friday’s quarterfinals saw Straide & Foxford, Kilmore, Crossmolina and Swinford exit the cup, while in the shield, Achill Rovers and Ballyvary Blue Bombers lost out.
In the cup, Killala notched up a 4-0 result over Swinford, who operate a division above them. Alva Munnelly and Ella McLoughlin are certainly driving the goals show for Killala, with two apiece on this outing.
Castlebar Celtic always posed a big challenge for Division 2 side Crossmolina, who responded to an early goal in positive fashion with a Rachel Bourke equaliser. No stopping Grainne Flynn, though, who finished with five goals in an 8-2 result, Bourke with a second late score for Cross’, who kept battling.
Manulla led by a goal at half-time in their tie against Kilmore, Cadhla Shaw netting on the quarter-hour mark. And it was game on when Lauren McHale levelled for Kilmore on 75 minutes.
A Hannah Prendergast penalty six minutes later put league leaders Manulla back in the ascendency, and Katie Heaney made matters certain in the 94th.
Two second-half goals in a five-minute spell from Louise Dowling saw Castlebar Town get past fellow Premier Division side Straide & Foxford United. Their visitors opened the scoring via Fiona Doherty on 13 minutes and it took until the 63rd for the first of Town’s two goals that saw them progress.
Snugboro were pushed all the way by Achill Rovers in their shield encounter which ended 1-2 in favour of ‘Boro.
Achill started strongly and took the lead through Aoife Gallagher in the 12th minute. They held that lead at half-time but ‘Boro came out in determined mood, equalising in the 54th minute and securing their semi-final place with what turned out to be the winner on 62 minutes.
Division One side Ballina Town enjoyed a 5-1 win over Ballyvary Blue Bombers, who operate in Division Two.
Kayla Salami opened the scoring in the fifth minute, but the Bombers’ response was quick, with Clodagh Kelly equalising three minutes later. Salami, who ended with a hat-trick, and Deirbhile Kilcullen had Town 3-1 up at the break, with Zara Daly also adding her name to the score sheet.
Kiltimagh Knock United received a w/o in the shield, with Westport United unable to field.
