Mayo v Kildare - GAA Football All-Ireland Senior Championship Round 2

At last night’s county board meeting, Mayo GAA revealed that they plan to have a new manager appointed for the senior football team within the next five to seven weeks.

This will coincide with the early rounds of the club championship, which is due to get underway in August.

A number of tweaks have been added to the appointment process – before this, it was only possible for clubs in the county itself to nominate managers, whereas now managers can be nominated by members of the executive.

The Management Appointment Committee will be put into place in the coming days.

Speculation around who will become the next manager continues.

Some of the favourites for the position include former county players Andy Moran and Austin O’Malley, as well as former Sligo manager Tony McEntee and Wicklow boss Oisin McConville.

Former Mayo manager James Horan has informed the county board that he will not be looking to return for a third term in charge.
