Hollymount Carramore will lodge an appeal to the Mayo GAA County Board against the result of last night’s intermediate championship clash with Kilmaine.
The winner-takes-all clash, for a place in the quarter finals, ended in a draw. Kilmaine had a better scoring difference than Hollymount Carramore, and thus took second place in the group.
The result, however, is shrouded in controversy as Kilmaine were awarded two points for a score by full forward Kevin Mullin in the first half – which was kicked from inside the 40 meter arc (which should be awarded one point).
This score is central to the appeal being lodged by Hollymount Carramore.
Speaking to Midwest Radio Sport, club chairman Tom Connelly said that the club are “in the process” of lodging the appeal, and that earlier in the year, county board delegates were told that if an appeal is to be made by a club, then “clear video evidence” is needed, which Mr. Connelly believes Hollymount Carramore have.
Mr. Connelly continued by saying that the club holds no animosity towards Kilmaine or the match officials.
