Charlestown Sarsfields v Ballaghaderreen - Mayo County Senior Club Football Championship Round 2

An appeals hearing will take place tonight at Hastings Insurance MacHale Park, Castlebar, one week on from the controversial intermediate championship meeting of Hollymount Carramore and Kilmaine.

The story has been well documented in recent days – the sides drew last Friday night in their final group game, meaning that Kilmaine advance to the Egan Jewellers IFC quarter finals, with Hollymount Carramore’s season coming to an end.

Kilmaine were awarded two points for a score in the first half, which was kicked from inside the 40m arc, and should have gone down as a single score.

Since then, video footage of Kevin Mullin’s score has been circulated across GAA social media, and on Monday night Hollymount Carramore lodged an appeal against the result to the county board.

Last night (Thursday) Kilmaine lodged a counter-objection, saying that the referee’s report stated that the game ended in a draw, and the result should stand.

In a further twist, the Mayo News have this morning quoted the referee’s report from the game, in which Declan Corcoran acknowledges that he mistakenly awarded a two pointer to Kilmaine and should have given one point.

Both teams have only seen this email for the first time, today, and the appeals hearing will take place this evening in Castlebar.
