The FBD League is set to return in January, after the competition had been shelved.
The Connacht inter-county senior football tournament was abandoned for this year, after pressure from the Gaelic Players Association, argued abolishing pre-season competitions would provide “much-needed rest before pre-season training resumes.”
Connacht GAA secretary John Prenty opposed that move, saying the loss in revenue, around 100,000 euro annually, would increase annual costs to counties.
The Western People is reporting that in a communication to the Connacht Counties, Mr. Prenty confirmed the FBD league will run in January of next year.
He said that the format and the draws will be discussed at a later date, after discussions with other provinces also seeing the return of their pre-season competitions.
