Ability West and Creggs RFC are coming together on Thursday April 10th from 11.30am to 1.30pm to launch a number of projects to support people with intellectual disabilities, limited mobility and their families on the grounds of Creggs Rugby Club.
Adaptable Bike Community Cycling Project
Ability West (Avondale Hub) are launching their Adaptable Bike as part of an Inclusive Community Cycling Project.
This adaptable bike allows people with disabilities to enjoy the cycling experience along with their families, friends and community members.
This bike is not only fun to ride but it also promotes physical activity and helps to celebrate inclusion.
New ‘Changing Places’ Facility
Creggs Rugby Club will also be opening their changing places facility on the same day. This project was supported by the HSE National Lottery Grant Scheme and Galway County Council Community Support Fund.
‘Changing Places’ is a network of accessible sanitary facilities around the country with adequate space for use by persons with a range of disabilities and complex care needs who may require assistance while travelling or attending an event away from home.
This excellent changing room comes complete with a disability toilet, a wash basin, an adult size changing bench, a hoist facility, a privacy curtain and optional shower, all in a room ideally suitable for use by persons with a range of disabilities who may require assistance.
New Sensory Room
Creggs Rugby Club will also opening a new sensory room adjoining the clubrooms. This project was supported by the IRFU Inclusive Facilities Grant Scheme.
The sensory room is designed to provide a range of stimuli to help engage all or some of the senses of the users in a safe environment.
It provides sensory stimulation, helps to develop communication skills and enhances learning through play.
Creggs Rugby Club would like to thank everyone who has assisted them in making it possible to provide these first-class facilities.
