The Westport United senior women’s team continued the club’s weekend winning streak when they overcame Castlebar Town in the second round of the Connacht Women’s Cup on Sunday.
The Premier League champions exited the competition on a 3-0 scoreline, falling a goal behind 20 minutes in when Aoife Gannon scored, and then an OG seeing them trail 2-0 at half-time.
A very early Lauren Maloney goal on the restart made life more comfortable for Westport who, starting with 11 players and losing two to injury, worked hard to the end to progress to the quarterfinals of the competition.
Next weekend, four Mayo teams are in action in the first round of the Connacht Women’s Shield.
The Under 17 Girls League is also kicking off next Sunday.
