Mayo AC were represented by eight runners in the 39th edition of the
Streets of Galway 8k on Saturday evening July 9.
Almost 3,000 participants ran on a familiar course that starts near the
Claddagh. It passes the city’s central landmarks Eyre Square, the Salmon
Weir Bridge, and the University before heading out to Salthill via St
Mary’s Road and then turning back along the bay to the finish at South
Park.
John Travers Donore Harriers AC was the winner in 23:26. He won the race
for the first time in 2018 in 23:56.
American long distance runner Emily Sisson was the first woman back at the
Claddagh in 24:59, beating the women’s course record of 26:01 held by
Rosemary Ryan since 2001.
She finished 23rd in the Paris Olympics Marathon in 2024. In April 2025
she set a new Irish All-Comers record for 5k at the Streets of Kilkenny
race finishing in 14:58.
Ide Ni Dhomhnaill Donore Harriers 27:43 was second woman, with Mary
Mulhare  Portlaoise AC third in 27:44. Ni Dhomhnaill won the women’s race
in  2022 and 2023.
Dan Charlton was the first Mayo AC runner home in an excellent 26:39, 24th
overall and 4th M40.
Rowland McIntyre was next in 29:11, followed by Matthew Gill 30:02, Tony
O’Malley 30:25 third M50, Art Maguire 30:35.
Congratulations to Colette Tuohy who won the F55 category in 32:33 – great
running!
Catherine Conway W40 crossed the line in 35:06 and Regina Kiernan W60 ran
47:44.
