It may be the middle of November, but there’s a lot of hurling this weekend as three Mayo clubs are in action in Connacht Club duty around the province and overseas.

On Saturday in the Connacht GAA Intermediate Hurling semi-final, Tooreen travel to Ruislip in London to take on the home side St Gabriels. It’s the fifth meeting of the sides at this stage of the competition since their first meeting in 2018, with the East Mayo side winning all four previous encounters. The throw-in is at 1.00pm in McGovern Park with Shane Hynes (Galway) officiating. Galway side Meelick-Eyrecourt await the winners on the final the following weekend.

History will also be made this Saturday as a Mayo club will take part in the Connacht Club Junior Hurling Competition for the first time, as Moytura Hurling Club travel to Duggan Park in Ballinasloe to take on the local side Ballinasloe, in this semi-final. The game throws in on Saturday at 1.30pm with Francis Kelly (Roscommon) officiating. Moytura qualified to represent Mayo back in August, having gone down to TooreenB in the Mayo decider, while Ballinasloe won the Galway Junior1 competition, having beaten neighbours Kiltormer recently. The winners of this Moytura/Ballinasloe tie will play Carrick or Easkey in the final.

While on Sunday at the Connacht GAA Centre of Excellence, the U16 hurlers of Westport are in Connacht final action, as they play Tommy Larkins (Galway) in their Connacht U16 club final. Westport beat Tooreen in the Mayo final in September before going on to beat Roscommon Gaels in the Connacht semi-final last weekend. The match throws in on Sunday in the Connacht Centre at 1pm with Michael Conway (Sligo) officiating.

And the small ball action this weekend doesn’t stop there as the Tooreen Camogie team take part in the Connacht Junior Club semi final on Saturday against Four Roads in Ballyforan at 5.30pm.

It may be November, but the hurling and camogie action is still going strong.
