Uncle Bill was a lovely man, a great storyteller of times past. The last of his generation and someone who lived so independently for so long to a great age, so much so, you’d think he’d be here forever.

He gave me advice when I was a child of never say no to anyone who offers you money!!! Advice that is as sound now as it was then, but it showed his fun and humorous personality.

He has left many fond memories behind in many people and it is in that, a life well lived can be celebrated.

I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of our wonderful neighbour and friend on Monday in his 97th year.
I knew Willie all my life, and he was such a big part of our family home, the community and of so many people’s lives. He was always kind, welcoming, and full of quiet wisdom, with time for a chat and a warm smile whenever you met him. Growing up, he was simply always there, a constant, familiar presence who made our community feel like home, while always driving his Massey Ferguson Tractor.
I feel very lucky to have known him for so many years, and I will always remember him with great fondness and respect.
My heartfelt condolences to all his nieces, nephews extended families and loved ones on all sides. May he rest in peace. xxx

Although we never had the privilege of knowing Bill, we feel very much like we do know him through my Dad Pat Campbell. Dad worked with and lodged with Bill in Yorkshire and I know he thought the world of him. He spoke of him often and would always visit him when he came home to Ireland. I am sure he was a hard working, true gentleman and I am

So Sad to lose Willie who was a true gentleman, my relation and my Godfather.
When I last saw him last year he talked lovingly about his life and in particular about his life and times in Mexborough when he was in his early twenties.
He loved to talk about the old times back then when he was a young man and remembered the people and places still familiar to him and was always interested to know what was happening there now.
It was always great to have the Craic with him every time I was able to visit.
He is the last of a special generation, a special person to me and I am very sad at his passing.
