Teresa Tarmey was a first cousin of my mother, Catherine Peyton. My mother was brought up with Teresa’s family (the Sheils). I will always remember Teresa as a kind-hearted person who would always be willing to help others. My family used to spend the school summer holidays in Ballyhaunis. Teresa would always come to visit with some of her family, my second cousins. There would be some turf or cabbages in the boot of the car- or some of her legendary treacle cake! She had great faith- God was central in her life. She travelled over to Birmingham with her sisters Mary and Philomena to be present at my ordination. With the help of her family- who cared for her heroically- she would livestream my
Masses in her last years. I will miss
her greatly but I know she has gone
to receive the reward of all the
goodness she lived out in her life. May her faithful soul rest in peace. I will keep her and all her family in my prayers, a family who did their mother proud.
