I just now came to learn of Barry’s death . Although my interactions with him were minimal, he was like so many I knew , a past pupil of Louis.
I too have my battle with cancer , and lord knows , I understand what Barry went through . His war is over him, and I hope you’ll find peace knowing that .

I first got to know Shane when we started Junior Infants in St Aiden’s Boys National School many moons ago and his wit and infectious smile were ever-present.
Although Golf was where Shane came into his own and excelled he also came through the underage ranks at Kiltimagh GAA where we won many East Mayo titles with both the National School and the Club. On the Soccer Pitch Shane came into his own he was fantastic player skillful , really quick and I had the pleasure of playing with him on man teams right up until recently. Shane took his fight determination and will to win on the field into his brave battle over the last few years with dignity.
Shane was a community man and always put his shoulder to the wheel no matter what the ask for our town and community. In Orla he found a Gem and they raised 3 wonderful boys together . As a community we must now rally around Orla the boys and their families in whatever way we can at their time of need.

Everyone involved with Kiltimagh GAA Club wants to express their sincere sadness and sympathy to the entire Freeman family on the loss of their beloved Shane.

Shane will be always be known as a Golfer, but he had an equal passion for GAA. He coached under age teams with the club and he was an unwavering supporter of both Mayo and Kiltimagh. Shane supported our ‘boys in blue’ right up until the end, coming to our last Championship match in Gilmartin Park a little over a week ago.

Shane’s greatest love, however, was his family, Orla and his boys Ruairi, Darragh and Eoghan.
We are all heartbroken for your loss.

Over the last 6 years, Shane has been an inspiration to us all, so strong and brave as he faced his illness, while always remaining positive.
Shane will be forever missed, but never forgotten.
