Sincere sympathy to Tommy on the sad passing of John.
I never had opportunity to work with John but got to know him through our many shared conversations in Davitt House.
Always confined his chats to current happenings, sport, politics and the likes. John never had a bad word for anyone and was always a pleasure to chat to him.
May he find the peace he deserves

Sincere condolences to Seán’s family and friends on his sudden passing. Just recently reconnected with him via fb and had many online chats mostly about sports, with the odd mention of our time in St. Jarlaths many years ago. RIP to a fine gentleman and Mayoman.

Our sincere sympathies to Tommy, John’s cousins, extended families, neighbours and many friends
John has been our next door neighbour here for over 30 yrs.
I talked to him almost every day over the farmyard wall, on sport ( Mayo GAA), politics, travel and life in general. We had many slagging matches re soccer, rival camps, Liverpool v Man.Utd. even though John had a soft spot for Spurs also.
John was gregarious, talented, intelligent, v good company, a decent man. He was also fearless and selfless this was shown in the story he related re saving a young man from drowning in Turkey.
Our last venture together was sowing a beech hedge in John’s back garden, sadly he wont see it mature.
John, you will always be fondly remembered here in Logaphuill
May you sleep in the bed of Heaven RIP

Deepest, deepest condolences to Sean’s brother, Tommy, and his extended family. Only knew Sean through mutual friends, met him in Mahmutlar many years ago. An absolute gentleman, to his fingertips. Always great company. Never knew him to say a bad word about anyone. We also had mutual colleagues from the time we spent in the Accounts branch of the Dept of Posts and Telegraphs, where we both worked, in the GPO, Dublin. God rest you, Sean, a unique, gentle and caring soul.

My deepest condolences to Tommy,, all Johns cousins, many friends and Davitt House colleagues. John was true gentleman, always so engaging, I had a long chat with him @ Pat Lynch’s funeral where he reminisced about all the good times especially the Quizzes and all those who were Specialists in certain subjects. No matter where he went his heart was always at home in his beloved Treenrevaugh which he often spoke of and wrote about, truly fitting that he passed away with his beloved brother Tommy and his neighbors by his side. Rest in peace John, you have earned your just reward 🙏

I enjoyed John’s company for many years while working together in Davitt House.

John was a man of routine—whether it was his meals or his daily schedule, he was loyal to the little rituals that shaped his day. From enjoying his favourite “pink” snack bar each lunchtime in our canteen – which to his horror was later discontinued by Cadbury’s – to setting off in his Ford Fiesta every Friday at precisely 4 p.m. for his beloved Bekan.

John was a storyteller. He regaled us at tea breaks with tales of interactions with neighbours from Bekan and friends in Turkey. When more serious discussions were taking place, they were often punctuated with John’s words, “And you can take it that I’m right”—and who were we to question that!

Over the years, we shared in the highs and lows of Man United and, of course, Mayo GAA. He himself had his own approach on the pitch, dealing with speedy opponents in St Jarlath’s by targeting their ankles just to see how fast they could run with a limp. John was also no stranger to the pool and though small in stature, he’d have given Daniel Wiffen a run for his gold.

I will remember John fondly. He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. My deepest sympathies to his brother Tommy, extended family, neighbours and friends during this time. May he rest in peace.
