I am so sorry for the loss of Seamus to the family and the greater community. I have such fond memories of Seamus through the years – when I think of Ireland he has always been the first person I think of. We of Martin Donohue’s family in Minnesota will miss him.

I have known Seamus for nearly 50 years as a colleague in the Department of Agriculture and a friend particularly since the tragic death of the love of his life Carmel. We worked together on the first European subsidy scheme for farmers called the Headage in the late seventies in the Westport area. I went to work in Galway and Seamus stayed in Mayo.
I retired in 2012 and that is when our paths met again. He rang around November time and said: Hey Cove how about setting up a meeting and dinner of retired colleagues.

So sad to hear of Séamus’s passing. Loved to meet him out walking in Curradrish. He would tell me ‘he was hoping to fit into his suit for an upcoming wedding’! I enjoyed hearing stories about his school days and growing up on the Turlough Road with his many friends and neighbours. He loved fresh mackerel which I had the pleasure of delivering to him on many occasions.

it was with great shock and sadness that i learned about the death of Seamus today.I met him in New York a few years when Mayo played New York.He was a great Castlebar Mitchels and Mayo supporter.Many people forget he was a fine footballer in his youth and starred for St. Geralds college Castlebar in Connaught success.When you talk about genuine he was the real deal.May his gentle soul rest in peace.

An active member of the parish community, involved, very encouraging and always supportive as a neighbour. Got A Text From him last night to say he was Staying with Siobhan , and therefore wouldn’t b with us
He had great Time for everyone,
But when he realised I was from Crossmolina, as he was friendly with my mother’s side of the Family .
Enjoyed His walks of Late Loved his game of 25 .

It is with great sadness that I’ve learned of Seamus’s sudden passing. Seamus was a good friend of mine and I will miss him greatly. Seamus was a past Chairman of The Castlebar Mitchels Bord nOg a position he carried out with great care and consideration towards the youth of The Mitchels Club.
