The recent passing of Paddy Higgins has signalled the end of another of the unique GAA characters throughout the length and breadth of Mayo and beyond. GAA supporters like Paddy, they were fiercely loyal to the cause of club and county, forever living the dream of bringing Sam back to Mayo or bringing a major title to their club. In essence,
Paddy was the supporter supreme who embodied the real spirit of the GAA, demonstrating a love for the games, a strong sense of loyalty, and an unwavering commitment to its values. 
l wish to extend my sympathy to his wife Teresa, sons P.J. and Michael, daughter Mary, and extended family members.

We had many a good night with paddy in Frank o reillys pub in Ballyvary singing and dancing also Annie has great fond memories of paddy singing in pontoon Bridge and also in the round Tower pub in Turlough with the late Des Boyle . I truly regret that this sad event occurred while I was out of the country and not in a position to attend his funeral, a funeral I would not have missed under any other circumstances. Paddy outlived most of his generation and those who remembered him in his prime but there are those who still remember him as an outstanding, all round sportsman who played Gaelic football at different levels; who was an accomplished handballer and even played hurling at County level when the occasion demanded. He had a fine singing voice and was a great entertainer who was appreciated far and wide. He was larger than life and will be greatly missed. Suaimhneas síorraí dá anam.
