Aged 90
Native of Doohoma, Belmullet, Co. Mayo, Ireland.
Devoted daughter of the late John and Kate Heston. Beloved wife of the late Bryan Doran.
Loving mother of Eileen and Mary “Kena”. Cherished sister of her late siblings Eamon, Bridget, Mary, Paddy, Sean, Charlie, Richie, Eileen, Gerry, Deb, and Patrick.
Loving aunt to many nieces and nephews; fond cousin to many; cherished and loyal friend.
At the early age of 17, mom left home and traveled to the U.S. by boat leaving from Cobh, Cork. She often said that she didn’t know what she was in for and she was so lonely, as she arrived only a few days before Christmas. After staying with cousins in Ohio, she then came to Chicago. She loved the excitement of the big city and wouldn’t go back to Ohio. She started her waitressing career at Stouffer’s in downtown Chicago, where she met some of her lifelong friends. She always worked hard, gave everything she could, and loved like no other. She had a welcome for anyone that came to the door and would insist on a cup of tea. Mom was ever ready to share a story or a laugh, and never shied away from leading a good sing-song with her amazing voice. Her smile and good-hearted ways will live with us forever and leave us with the happiest of memories.
Peggy had a strong faith and devotion to many saints that she prayed to often. She had a gentle kindness and was adored by all who knew her. She will forever be missed.
