I remember him coming to Glenisland to our house when I was a kid. It was always my job to have a basin of warm water and soap 🧼 and a clean towel for John. My Dad would never allow us to go into the shed, and I was left in wonderland.

John was one of the original founders of the Drummindoo Group Water Scheme and his input in the early years was a major reason for the success of the scheme. He took a great interest in local affairs and was always ready to offer encouragement and to help out as needed.

I have known John since I came to Westport in 1972. I was staying in Nancy Geraghty’s on Castlebar St with John colleagues in the AI service. John would come in and join in the banter at tea time at 10. 30 before we all would head off to a dance in many dance halls around Westport In those days. John was instrumental in setting up the Drummindoo Group Water Scheme which was one the first piped water schemes in Westport area.
John was a true Gentleman and always a pleasure to meet.
In later years I would meet himself and Mary walking at Westport Quay. We are thinking of you all at this difficult.
