Rest in peace, Joan,

We met late in life and shared a very intense, yet difficult, time together.
I am grateful that I had the chance to get to know you during your visits to Offenburg, following Gert’s death.
I will remember you as a warm-hearted and incredibly energetic person.
I will fondly remember a few bottles of wine and lively conversations in your mother-in-law’s garden (she is now 99 years old).
I will remember many cups of coffee in my living room, so many trips to the hairdresser’s, to the station, to the airport, and your infectious laugh.
During my visit to Ireland, I was able to experience you as a caring hostess, despite the complicated circumstances.
My thoughts are with your sisters, your brother, your nieces and nephews, and your friends (especially Anne).

In the last message I received from you, you wrote that you were doing well and coping well with the treatment.

Now you are at eternal rest in your wonderful Ireland – and always in my memory.

Today I listened to a song, which reminded me to Joan, all of a sudden.
Since years I tried to find her by Google search, so I did today because of this song. And I was realy shocked to read, that she has gone.
I had been a friend in Offenburg, where she lived with Gert. A Long, long time ago. Around 1976 and following years. Until they left. So many days and nights we shared with all our friends, all Being young. What a wonderfui time we had all together. Perhaps you Fiona, can remember your visit in Offenburg.
I always hoped to meet her again. Condolences to Joan‘s family. RIP Joan.

Deepest sympathies to Joan’s sisters and brother and many good friends. Got to know Joan after I lost my own sister and through her great friend Andy, and she truly was an absolute gem of a human. We shared plenty stories and many glass of wine or pints in Brannen’s in Newport. She will be sorely missed around Newport / Glenhest. I’m sure you and Trish will be having plenty of laughs again and keeping an eye on us from Heaven.

Deepest condolences to Joan’s family and friends in Ireland and India. I had the pleasure of getting to know Joan during covid times when she came to work at the Pilgrims Rest. She was a no nonsense, witty, caring person who always looked out for those who were in need of advocacy. Enjoyed many a social glass of wine with Joan, she was one genuine person and will be sadly missed x

Dear Fiona, Paula, Niamh and extended family, we are so very sorry to hear this sad news. The term Lady is not used lightly but Joanie was truly that. Our family were truly blessed to be part of Joanie’s journey through life. We shall miss her so much we are very sad today with the news, May God bless you all at this sad time.
