Gerry (Gerard) Sharkey

I am saddened to learn that Gerry has passed from this life. It was through his interest in botany that I came to know him about 20 years ago, when we were both members of the BSBI ‘s Irish Committee. We engaged in a few projects together and he was always very thoughtful about those little practical matters that make you feel at home – like meeting me at Connolly Station and ferrying me to the Botanic Garden. He was always good company on outings and the world of natural history is all the poorer without him.

Gerry was a big part of my role with the Botanical Society of Britain and Ireland (BSBI) – he was brave to push for the newly created position which I worked in, and he was kind and supportive. I really valued that. My condolences to all his friend and family.
