Fr. Benny Flanagan

Kilgarve Gardens, Creagh, Ballinasloe, Co. Galway and formerly of Ballymoe, Castlerea, Co. Galway, 9th March 2025, aged 85 – peacefully at Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe.

Predeceased by his parents Thomas and Katie, brothers Tom and James, sister Madeline, brother-in-law Martin and sister-in-law Madge.

Deeply regretted by his sister Sr. Marie, sister-in-law Nuala, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, Bishop Michael Duignan, Bishop Emeritus John Kirby, the priests of the diocese, other relatives, parishioners, colleagues, neighbours and many good friends.

Reposing at Grenhams Funeral Home, Ballinasloe on Wednesday evening 12th March 2025 from 4pm until 7pm followed by removal to St. Michael’s Church, Ballinasloe.

Funeral Mass on Thursday 13th March 2025 at 12 noon followed by burial afterwards in Kilcroan Cemetery, Ballymoe.

So sorry to read of Benny’s death.Sincere sympathy to Sr.Marie and Nuala,extended family and thediocesan priests.Fond memories of him from our time in Garbally,and he was wonderful at keeping in contact and organising our school reunion,with an annual get together in the Ashling Hotel as recently as last year.Regret being unable to attend his funeral mass,as I have a family commitment on that day,but will visit his grave in the near future.

Deepest Sympathy to Fr Benny’s Family. Fr Benny was in Lourdes with Mayo Group 95 when I was in Lourdes in 2018 and I enjoyed talking to him in Lourdes during Easter Week. A very nice priest to talk to. May Fr Benny’s gentle soul rest in peace.
