As a privileged friend of the Prendergast family, it is understandable that the loss of Ned, as he was affectionately known, has caused significant grief and sadness for his wife Annie, extended families and the wider community. For the families concerned, the memories of childhood days growing up in Kinaffe, will keep coming back as if it were only yesterday. Very often, and indeed significant, too, are the memories that are woven into paterns of unique love and affection that existed between his grandchildren. That unconditional love and affection, shared stories of wisdom, warmth of laughter, patience gained from a lifetime of experience, these qualities helped provide and shape a safe and supportive haven, which went far beyond the daily responsibilities of parenting. 
May the above lines offer solace, comfort, and heartfelt homage to his memory.
