He used to always tell me about his days in London as a curate and going to hear the football matches on a transistor radio in Clapham Common. They would throw some sort of Aeriel up on a tree to get a sound and how wonderful it was to get the GAA games. That was back in the 60’s. Happy memories. May he rest in peace.

I was one of his priest colleagues in the barony of Erris 1999 to 2004 when George was Parish Priest of Kilmore-Erris while living in Binghamstown. A larger than life good fellow who endeared himself to everyone by his faith, wit and good humour and his kindly ways. Go ndéana Dia grásta air.

We will miss you so much, cousin and friend for 56 years, officiated at our marriage, saddened at your passing. Much loved , Jim and Phil Palmer, Olive Conlon.

Very fond memories of Fr. mcHale in the early 70’s. He was a a shining light to us youth growing up during many dark and difficult days in the Erris Gaeltacht. He introduced us to drama and the writing of our own dramas. He loved a bit of fun and craic and needless to say we were able to give it back in abundance.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Canon George McHale, a longtime friend. We went school together at Rathnamagh , NS. He was a few years older but was always kind and respectful to his lower classmates.
I remember him as a bright, humorous young man, full of life. He was the only one from our school who went on to become a priest. We later knew him fondly as Father George. To those who knew him well, he was something of an icon—always engaging, welcoming, and warm. He lived a wonderful life. My condolences to his family, relatives, and all who knew him and will miss him. Rest in peace

Heartfelt sympathy to Canon George’s family on his death. Everyone has fond memories of him, especially where drama was concerned. He was in his element when a play was in production during the long winter nights. He had a way of encouraging volunteers to become part of it and there could be a hundred people involved by the time it reached the stage. He was caring and compassionate and a great friend to all.
