A woman was brought to Mayo University Hospital (MUH) following a fall yesterday morning during a climb of Croagh Patrick.

Mayo Mountain Rescue (MMR) were called out to the incident by an Garda Síochána to assist the casualty at 9:50am.

The woman started her climb at 6:15am on Sunday morning with a friend and had almost completed her descent of the mountain, when she unfortunately injured her ankle. This prompted her friend to call emergency services.

The woman was located about 20 minutes from the base of the mountain, with MMR first responders providing immediate emergency care until a stretcher party arrived. She was safely stretchered to a waiting ambulance, and then brought to MUH for further treatment.

MMR team was stood down at 12:15pm.
