Wildfire could have been worse says councillor

A Mayo councillor has called for people to be mindful while discarding cigarette butts as the weather improves, following a wildfire near Cregganbaun last week.

Councillor Chris Maxwell says that if wind conditions had been stronger last Thursday, the spread of the fire may have been much more significant.

Councillor Maxwell paid tribute to the fire service, farm contractors and other locals who helped tackle the blaze.
