A Westport business owner says her staff are refusing to come to work following an incident yesterday, in which a car lost control in the car park outside the building and smashed the glass front of the hair salon.

Linda McNally, who runs L and S Hair Salon on Upper Mill street in Westport says concrete lego blocks were put in place in front of the business two and a half years ago, following a similar incident.

However yesterday, when the incident happened, the car hit the concrete block, which went through the window, landing near a client who was in the salon at the time.

Linda McNally says the hill, that leads to the front of the salon should be closed off, which would result in the loss of 10 car park spaces, but would ultimately make the business safer.

She has been speaking to Midwest Radio’s Tommy Marren…

Westport councillor Peter Flynn met with the owners and staff of the salon yesterday following the incident.

He says local councillors have been years calling for essential works in both the Mill street car park and the James street car park to be completed, but to date nothing has been done.

Councillor Flynn says that if no programme for works is put in place by close of business on Monday, they will suspend all car parking in Westport until a resolution is met….
