The average number of hours that patients wait in the Emergency Department of Mayo University Hospital has more than doubled in a decade.
The figure was 4 hours in 2014 and that has risen to 9 hours in 2026 – that is the average time a patient waits in the ED at Mayo University Hospital before they are either admitted or discharged.
These startling figures were provided by the HSE in response to a Parliamentary Question submitted by Mayo Aontu Deputy Paul Lawless.
