Victim of fatal N17 collision named locally

The man who died following a collision on the N17 near Charlestown last month has been named locally.

65 year old Simon Gannon, of Cloonamna, Kilmovee, was involved in a collision while cycling on the afternoon of Friday February 28.

He was found with life threatening injuries, and was brought by ambulance to hospital.

Mr. Gannon passed away on Sunday March 16, peacefully at Mayo University Hospital.

He has since been laid to rest at Naomh Mobhí Cemetery.

Mr. Gannon is sadly missed by his sisters Elaine, Deirdre and Maria, extended family, neighbours and friends.

Gardaí have issued a witness appeal for information into the fatal collision.

Anyone who was travelling on the N17 between Charlestown and the turn off for Ireland West Airport between 11:45am and 12:20pm on Friday February 28, and may have camera footage (including dash-CAM) is asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
