Mayo TD Paul Lawless has received an update from Uisce Éireann regarding the waste water treatment plant in Newport.

After a meeting with Uisce Éireann representatives yesterday, the Aontú Deputy learned that research has been carried out by the Marine Institute which will assist in the next step of the project.

However, the main take-away from the meeting is that delays are continuing in the process, with the regulatory agency (MARA) holding up the process as they are yet to approve a Maritime Usage (MUL) license application for Uisce Éireann.

Deputy Lawless says that the application is ‘collecting dust’ in an office in Dublin, while ‘Newport’s fish stock is undergoing significant damage on a daily basis’.
