Uisce Éireann is inviting communities in North Mayo and South Sligo to an information evening next week to learn more about plans for a major upgrade of the Ballina and Lough Talt Water Supply.

Local residents, businesses, and community groups will be able to speak with members of the project team who will be in Glasgow Kennedy House in Ballina next Wednesday, 15 April from 4pm until 8pm.

It will form part of the non‑statutory public consultation on the proposed upgrade, which opened last month and runs until 20 April.

Uisce Éireann have said that all feedback will help shape their planning application.

John McElwaine, Programme Manager with Uisce Éireann, said; “As part of the upgrade, additional treatment capacity and treated water storage will be provided at Lisglennon Water Treatment Plant. Ballina’s ageing water network will be upgraded, a new trunk main connecting Lisglennon to Ballina and onto Bonniconlon and Lough Talt laid along with additional network storage at Bonniconlon and Lough Talt.

“The capacity provided will support future growth in the region,” he continued, ”while ending water abstraction from Lough Talt will allow natural lake levels to be restored and deliver significant ecological benefits for local habitats and wildlife.”
