Tributes are being paid to former Ballina based Fine Gael Senator Ernie Caffrey.
Ernie, of Garden St, Ballina, died at the weekend.
Elected to Seanad Éireann on the Industrial and Commercial Panel in 1997, he served in the upper house until 2002. He also served on Mayo County Council and on Ballina Urban District Council.
He ran as a Fine Gael candidate in four successive general elections between 1989 and 2002, but never won a seat.

Ernie’s remains will be reposing at McGowan’s Funeral Home , Ballina this evening from 5-7pm.
He will be laid to rest after 11.30am Mass tomorrow (Tues) in St Murdeach’s Cathedral, in Leigue cemetery, Ballina.
