Trial traffic lights must be installed at one of Castlebar’s most notorious junctions. That’s the view of local Fine Gael councillor Ger Deere, and his stance is backed by all elected councillors on Castlebar Municipal District.

Four roads intersect at Gallows Hill in Castlebar town  – Chapel St, Rathbawn Rd, New Line and Tucker St.

The junction has a mixture of one and two-way traffic from the various link roads and has been a contentious, dangerous location for decades now.

Traffic light trials are being demanded at the junction by councillors who say something has to be done immediately, as the situation is becoming increasingly busy and dangerous for all road users.

The matter was raised at the monthly meeting of Castlebar Municipal District.
