The case of three men who have been charged with possessing stolen goods from burglaries in the west of Ireland, is being prioritized, but as a wider and complex matter, Sligo District Court heard yesterday.

According to the Sligo Champion, solicitors for Edward Connors (50), Larry Connors (27) and Edward Connors (28) criticised the court for what they called delays in having the cases dealt with.

The three men are all from Dublin and related. 50 year old Edward Connors is a father of Larry, while 28 year old Edward is his nephew.

Among the charges brought against the men is the possession of stolen jewellery taken during the course of a burglary at a house in Manulla on November 29 last year.

They are further charged with the same offence carried out at a house in Tuam, County Galway, but the day previous.

Detective Garda Martin McHale told the court that these offences, along with another which was brought before yesterday’s meeting, are part of an overall organised crime investigation over a two to three year period involving 117 burglaries and the investigation of a gang committing burglaries nationwide during the time frame.

While Judge Sandra Murphy stated that a file was not ready for the Director of Public Prosecutions, she said that it seemed to be a very complex, broad and deep case relating to the large scale investigation.

The defendants have been remanded in custody until April 3, with the Judge stating that she expects progress on that date.
