Those still without power are the priority

It could be next week before electricity is restored to all homes and businesses knocked out by Storm Eowyn, last Friday week.
Thousands of properties are still without power today almost two weeks on, the majority of these are rural communities across the west.
There is anger in this region over the inadequacies of vital infrastructure in the face of the Storm, with communications, electricity and water supply all affected by the weather. Many areas remain without telecom services 14 days after the Storm.
Householders want the power outages to be reflected in their electricity bills, but the CEO of the ESB appears to be ruling out any such measure.
The ESB made 868 million euro in profit in 2023.
Minister for Social Protection Dara Calleary says the government will be talking to the ESB about its stance next week, but says the priority at the moment is getting all households reconnected.
The Fianna Fail Minister insists there is government support in place for people without electricity, through the Humanitarian Fund Scheme and he is encouraging all those affected to apply for the assistance.
Midwest News Editor Teresa O’Malley spoke to Minister Calleary and asked him why the ESB is not being made accountable for the state of it’s infrastructure in this region and in light of the palpable anger locally over the government’s response to the aftermath of the Storm….
