Telecom reconnection delays causing “real hardship”

Communication companies have been criticised by one Mayo TD for their failure to reconnect customers, over three weeks after Storm Éowyn.

Sinn Féin Deputy Rose Conway Walsh says that the damage caused by the particular storm was “on a worse scale than anything I have (she has) ever witnessed across Mayo and the whole country”.

While she is aware of the difficulties faced by telecom companies in managing reconnections, she insists that phone and internet connections are vital communication tools and people cannot be left without them.

She has questioned the lack of clarity around restoration times, while Eir have informed her that it could take three weeks for repairs to be complete across Mayo.
