A proposal will be brought before the Dáil this afternoon, to name the National Children’s Hospital after a Mayo native.
Sinn Féin TD Aengas O Snódaigh wants to name the hospital, when opened, after Dr. Kathleen Lynn who was born in Killala.
One of Ireland’s foremost pioneering medics, Dr. Lynn founded Ireland’s first children’s hospital – St. Ultan’s in Dublin.
She was also the only female commandant of the 1916 Rising.
Deputy O Snódaigh believes that Dr. Lynn deserves this recognition as a woman who set examples for Ireland, and he has been raising this in Government since 2013.
He will speak in the Dáil later today.
