A Mayo TD has said a clerical support role has been transferred from the Primary Care facility in Belmullet to South Mayo, describing it as “yet another erosion of essential services in rural communities”.

Sinn Féin’s Rose Conway-Walsh said that it is not simply an administrative change, but that it has a direct impact on frontline services and on the patients and families who depend on them.

Deputy Conway-Walsh has called on the HSE to review the decision.

She has been speaking to Midwest Radio’s Scott Stephens…

In response to a request for a statement from Midwest Radio News, the HSE said; “Clerical admin support is in place in Belmullet Health Centre / Erris Primary Care Team and will continue to be provided.”

Midwest Radio News has sought a clarification as to whether that means the specific role has or has not been transferred or if it is simply referring to administrative work continuing in Belmullet.
