A Mayo musician won big last night at the 2025 RTÉ Folk Awards in Dublin.

Alannah Thornburg, a native of Swinford, was named ‘Best Folk Instrumentalist’ at the awards night at Vicar Street.

She recently released her debut solo album ‘Shapeshifter’, dedicated to her grandfather Martin Nolan.

The album is described as a “captivating collection of compositions deeply inspired by the rich traditions of fairy folklore and mythology from rural Ireland, particularly her native County Mayo”.

Her album launch tour will take her right around Ireland, beginning on April 4 at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar.
