The Dolphin Hotel in Crossmolina town centre, is being used to accommodate homeless individuals and families and the development continues to cause some concern locally.
The matter was raised by the Cathaoirleach of Ballina Municipal District, Crossmolina based, Michael Loftus, earlier this month at the Ballina Municipal District meeting. He called on council management to let the community know what’s happening at the venue. He said it’s understood that the function room in the hotel is at present being converted into bedrooms, but that has not been confirmed, as there is no planning application for such a development on record. The Cathaoirleach said council management says it does not have any contract in place “at present” to accommodate homeless people in the facility, however, there are in excess of 20 homeless individuals and families living there now.
Midwest News contacted the Dolphin Hotel in Crossmolina for clarity after the Cathaoirleach’s statement and spoke to the Hotel Manager James McArdle, who said a statement would be issued “shortly”.Since no statement had been received to date, we again contacted Mr McArdle today, and the response is that a statement will be issued “shortly”.
