For the first time in 26 years, a Mayo group has won the All Ireland Drama Festival.
St. Patrick’s Drama Group in Westport were crowned national champions with their acclaimed production of Woman and Scarecrow by Marina Carr.
They swept through the circuit, winning six qualifying festivals before taking the All Irelnad title.
It’s the first national title for Mayo since Garrymore’s landmark victory in 1999.
Major award winners for the group included Seamas Cafferky (Best Director), Alannah Ní Mhíocháin (Best Actress), Jamie O’Neill (Best Lighting) and Martina Ryan (Best Actress nominee).
The talented cast also featured Colette McGinty and Seamas Cafferky in a dual role as director and performer.
The production was supported by the skilled team including Micki Hansberry (sound), Danny McNamara (set), Nicole Gannon (live music), Alice Burns (stage manager), and Sinéad Brogan, whose singing added a haunting dimension.
