The European Parliament yesterday voted on the future of European defence.
Independent Ireland MEP Ciaran Mullooly says it revealed significant divisions among Ireland’s government parties regarding the country’s stance on neutrality.
Fine Gael MEPs voted in favour of setting up a European defence union and, according to MEP Mullooly want to spend billions on defense.
“The party support a move to spend €13 billion on Irish defence – a five-fold increase”.
While Fianna Fáil MEPs initially voted for the resolution before changing their position and abstained.
MEP for this region, Mullooly says the government parties seem to be in two minds on the issue and he wants the matter raised in the Dail.
